Bellingham’s own homegrown FUNK & SOUL scene has come together to produce a benefit concert for one of the Godfathers of FUNK himself, Mr. Bernie Worrell. The man is a musical architect that spent his career performing and recording on seminal albums by Parliament-Funkadelic (a band he founded) and The Talking Heads, a group he helped elevate towards immortality as a part of concert film Stop Making Sense.
Bernie is a legend and he is dying of stage 4 lung cancer. Bernie recently moved to the Bellingham area, and despite of his illness, has been mentoring and encouraging young musicians in our scene. So we’re stepping up and helping one of the best human beings we know, by trying to sell out this show. This concert will raise money for Bernie’s cancer treatments. But we’re also coming together to show Bernie how much we love him and appreciate his contributions to our culture. THANK YOU BERNIE.
