Following their university graduations, DJs Aaron Bring (ABX) and Steve Reidell (STV SLV) soon moved to Chicago, and after listening to the likes of Girl Talk and Them Jeans, became inspired to craft hip-hop mash-ups of their own. The DJs subsequently buried themselves into their computers mixing the likes of Mos Def with Battles, TLC with Led Zeppelin, and Lloyd with Feist. The duo’s debut output was the 27-track mixtape “The Hood Internet Mixtape Volume One” in 2007, followed shortly after by the 29-track mixtape “The Hood Internet Mixtape Volume Two” the same year. Uploaded to their blog, the mixtapes generated a significant audience for The Hood Internet and led to the pair performing live at venues across the U.S.
The Hood Internet maintained this prodigious output into 2008 with the release of the mixtapes “The Hood Internet vs. Chicago” and “The Hood Internet Mixtape Volume Three”. The former mixtape of which made a number of year-end lists, representing a huge feat for a group releasing music in a non-traditional format.
In 2010 The Hood Internet’s profile was raised further when street clothing brand Mishka sponsored the pair’s subsequent mixtape “Trillwave”. In an attempt to expand their music style and fan base into new areas, the duo released their debut full-length album “Feat” in 2012. Issued by Decon Records, the album host contributions from AC Newman, Class Actress, Psalm One and the Rosebuds, and earned a string of positive reviews. Towards the tail-end of 2012 The Hood Internet issued the remix album “Feat REMIXES”, after which the pair produced the 2013 Sole single, “Gangster of Love”.
